The infamous star of Tiger King is “over the moon” about his newfound fame.
Due to the crimes he committed towards animals and Baskin, Exotic is now serving a 22-year prison sentence for his actions.
However, we now know how Joe Exotic has reacted to the hit documentary series, as according to co-director of Tiger King Rebecca Chaiklin, he very much approves of his new notoriety.
Chaiklin explained: “I must get 30 phone calls a day and texts and [co-documentary maker] Eric maybe even more so. There is a lot of communication going on.”
She revealed: “Most characters are super happy. The Rick Kirkhams, the Josh Dials, the Saffs – and then there are other characters who are probably less happy with the way they were portrayed.
“I mean, Joe is over the moon. I really mean over the moon.
“Even though he is locked in this horrible prison, he’s happier than he has ever been in his life, because he is finally famous.”
Fans of the hit series now have the special reunion episode, Tiger King And I, to enjoy, which sees various faces from the series speak with comedian Joel McHale about the show’s success and what they have been up to since.
One of the main cast is Joe’s former husband John Finlay, who has undergone a stunning transformation since the first episodes were filmed.
While Joe’s imprisonment means he has not been filmed reacting to the documentary, he definitely has his thoughts on it.
In fact, director Chaiklin states that Joe’s reaction to the Tiger King sensation is the strangest element of his story yet.
“It is the most bizarre twist of all to me, the psychology of it,” she says, “Its bizarre.”
I think we can all agree that almost everything that happens in Tiger King could be described as bizarre!
