Holby City review with spoilers: Evan dies as Cameron refuses to help him

Directly picking up after last weeks horrific events on Holby City, this episode dealt with the repercussions of Evan (Jack Ryder)s brutal attack on Chloe (Amy Lennox). With people back at the hospital – particularly Ange (Dawn Steele) and Cameron (Nic Jackman) – blaming themselves for what happened to her, Chloe bravely took the next steps into her own hands. She decided to go with Sheena (Eve Macklin), the police officer whod been assigned to her, to a SARC (Sexual Abuse Referral Centre). She was determined that Evan was not going to get away with raping her.

This was a brave, touching performance from Amy Lennox. Chloe was shocked, jumpy and vulnerable but there was an inner strength to her. Andy Baylisss script didnt dwell on the details of Chloes ordeal but gave us enough so that we could feel her shock and pain. I thought I was screaming. I thought it was so loud, but nothing was coming out, she told Sheena, who was calm and reassuring, always letting Chloe dictate the pace, trying to make things as comfortable for her as possible.

This was a contrast to the atmosphere at the hospital, where Ange and Cameron were both blaming themselves for what had happened. Ange was trying to protect Chloe by hiding the screwdriver shed found at the scene, not wanting Evan (should he survive) to be able to say that Chloe attacked him first. When Kian (Ramin Karimloo) and Ange sorted out Evans obvious stab wound, Kian was surprised that his patient started to deteriorate – and a second wound was found. This was from the screwdriver.

Ange had to tell Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) about the screwdriver and why she had it. He said she could be perverting the course of justice. Eventually he persuaded Ange that it wasnt a great idea to try to conceal the facts. Telling the truth is how we protect Chloe now, he insisted.

Back at the SARC, Chloe had told Sheena about the screwdriver anyway, saying that Evan had fallen on it when she tried to escape from him after shed hidden in the bathroom. But would Evan succeed in persuading the police that he was the victim? Waking up after his surgery, thats exactly what he tried to tell Cameron. It was clear that Evan was unrepentant about Chloe, about Sophie (Sally Scott) and about other victims.

When Evan started to deteriorate while only Cameron was in the room, Cameron muted the beeping of the machine, closed the door and waited until it was too late before he called the crash team and turned the machine back on. He knew exactly what he was doing – making up for not protecting Chloe and making sure she couldnt be hurt again. Its over. Its done, was Anges relieved reaction to the news of Evans death, but Cameron was left in pieces as he thought about his actions.
