Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) was left devastated on Coronation Street as her dreams of a happy ending were abruptly derailed. Having fallen in love with Jan Lozinski (Piotr Baumann) the pair made plans to leave Weatherfield together, but just as Eileen had said her goodbyes she was heartbroken to learn that Jan had left without her.
Jan, who had been working as an informant for the police, was still recovering in hospital after being shot and had pleaded Eileen to start a new life with him.
After deliberating for ages Eileen decided to take the plunge and follow her heart, and was all set to leave her friends behind for the man she loved.
Unknown to Eileen, Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) had had a chat with Jan out of concern for her, telling him that going on the run wouldnt be whats best for Eileen.
Jan digested Seans words and felt that Eileen would be much safer without him.
Later on, he discharged himself from hospital and went into witness protection alone as he had originally planned.
When Eileen had packed a suitcase and raced to the hospital to leave with him, she was distraught to learn that Jan had gone.
She headed back home and panicked that Rachel (Verity Henry), who had previously shot Jan, had returned to finish the job.
But Sean confessed that he had encouraged Jan to go without her because he feared for Eileens safety.
The cab office worker was heartbroken and lashed out at Sean, accusing him of being jealous that she had found happiness.
Sean insisted that he only did what he did out of love for her, but sadly Eileen was too upset and ordered him to leave.
Can they ever get their friendship back on track? And is it really the last weve seen of Jan?
