Gordon Igesund: Stuart Baxter must stay put!

Cape Town – Former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund says Stuart Baxter must remain in charge despite their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final exit.

South Africa suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the last eight, but did come away with some sense of pride having defeated hosts Egypt in the last 16.

However, it seems a section of supporters still want his head to roll after two defeats in the group stages – to Ivory Coast and Morocco – as well as an unconvincing victory against Namibia.

Nonetheless, Igesund believes that continuity is important for long-term success citing the fact he felt he was sacked prematurely by the South African Football Association (SAFA) in 2014.
