Shane Richie may have served up his last orders on the set of Eastenders – but he’s not ready to call time on his TV career.
The actor and presenter, 53, left the show in 2016, but followed up with a short spin-off series entitled Redwater. But now, he’s got Strictly Come Dancing in his sights.
Speaking to Bang Showbiz, the funnyman revealed he would love to return to a Saturday night presenting slot, and thinks he would be perfect to join Tess Daly or Claudia Winkleman on the ballroom contest if either decided to give their jobs up.
‘No, I’d love to host Strictly. If one of the girls decide they’ve had enough, then I’d happily host a show like that.
‘I couldn’t host on my own. I’ve got so many friends in there, I don’t know who to vote for.’
Shane’s previous presenting duties include Reflex, The One Show and Sky series Don’t Forget The Lyrics, which lasted for two series. In November, he released a country music album.
Going on, Shane also spoke of how much fun he had presenting Don’t Forget The Lyrics!, which saw contestants try and fill in the blanks of famous song lyrics, in exchange for cold, hard cash.
That was one of my favourite shows that I’ve ever worked on and we did two series on Sky and if I was going to come back and do a Saturday night show, that would be the one I’d go back to,’ he revealed.
I think it’s one of those shows that would work well on ITV on a Saturday night. Get me with my live band and put me back on ‘Don’t Forget the Lyrics.’
Let’s see how you get on with that album first.
