Winning 19 of their 20 league games this term, City have stormed 15 points clear at the top of the table and are the overwhelming favourites to take Chelsea’s title.
Such has been City’s dominance, the club have already scored 61 goals – 15 more than any other team – while only conceding 12.
The records continue to tumble at the Etihad and Morata, who joined Chelsea in the summer from Real Madrid, knows it will be ‘difficult’ to bridge the gap in the second-half of the season.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, the Spanish striker said: ‘It’s difficult, but we’ll do what we can. It will also be difficult for City to keep winning so many games.
‘What we have to do is to pick up all the points available by winning every game. If we win, we can hope that they lose, because that is all we can do.’
Returning to the Chelsea side following a brief period on the sidelines, Morata continued his impressive run with a goal in the 2-0 win over Brighton on Boxing Day.
For the sixth time this season, it was defender Cesar Azpilicueta who supplied the assist for his compatriot and Morata said: ‘It was very nice to get another goal.
‘Not only Cesar and I but the entire team have a good understanding. It’s great to be playing here at Chelsea and playing with Cesar.
‘He is an exceptional person and an exceptional player. We worked well in the second half to earn the win. It was a very important victory for us like every match will be for the rest of the season.’
Chelsea face Stoke City on Saturday before making the short trip to the Emirates to take on London rivals Arsenal on January 3.
