Home And Away star Jessica Falkholt continues to remain in critical condition after a devastating Boxing Day car crash which killed both her parents.
The 28-year-old actress was rushed to St George hospital where is surrounded by family who rushed to her bedside; her sister, Annabelle, is also in critical condition and is being cared for at Liverpool hospital.
‘Sadly those family members are travelling to the St George and Liverpool Hospitals to engage with their loved ones who are very much in a critical condition at this time,’ Highway Patrol Chief Inspector Phil Brooks told SBS News.
A spokesperson for Channel Seven, the Australian broadcaster of Home And Away, said the news was ‘especially tragic’ given the Christmas period.
‘Although her time on set was brief, once a part of the Home and Away family, always part of the family. Jessica’s outstanding talent and professional attitude left an impression on us all,’ they said.
Jessica’s parents Lars, 69, and Vivian, 60, were tragically killed in the head-on collision, which took place around 10.45am on 26 December as they returned home from Christmas Day celebrations; a 50-year-old man from Ulladulla, Craig Anthony Whitall, driving the other car was also killed.
Their identities were confirmed through their dental records as a result of the fireball which claimed their lives.
It’s emerged that hero motorists helped to pull Jessica and sister from the wreckage of the car crash minutes before the vehicle burst into flames.
Police have now confirmed they are speaking to witnesses and attempting to ‘investigate the behaviour’ of Mr Whitall to determine if perhaps he was using a mobile phone prior to the incident.
Falkholt played Hope Morrison on Aussie soap Home And Away in 2016, a role she played for 16 episodes.
At the end of her Home And Away stint on 7 November 2016, Hope – the cousin of Raffy – was taken away to prison, and was involved in a kidnap storyline as well as an overdose plot.
She most recently filmed the fantasy movie Harmony, expected for release next year, and appeared in Underbelly: Badness after graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in 2015.
