The Wanteds Nathan Sykes is glad hes not been put on blast in Ariana Grandes latest track.
The 25-year-old songstress dropped her oh-so-fabulous breakup anthem – thank u, next – earlier this week, in which she charts her past relationships and thanks her ex-boyfriends for all that they taught her (love, patience and pain, FYI).
Though Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Mac Miller and, of course, Pete Davidson all got a mention on the chart-topping track, Nathan, who dated Ariana between August and December 2013, was left off the list – and, unlike us, hes feeling pretty stoked about it.
Speaking to TMZ on Wednesday, the 25-year-old singer confessed her hadnt heard Aris song yet (erm, where have you been?) but expressed relief at learning he hadnt been featured on it.
Thats good! he said, with enough nervous laughter to suggest hes not all that keen on revisiting the three-month romance.
No, thats good, thats nice.
With Ari documenting what she has taken from her ex-boyfriends on the track – and coming to the conclusion that shes better off in a relationship with herself, yaaas gurl – Nathan was asked whether hed learned anything from their whirlwind romance.
It was a long time ago so you just grow as a person, I was very, very young when that happened, he said.
Ive grown up a lot.
Is that it, Nath?
And it doesnt look as though the boy band star has any hopes of rekindling their short-living romance any time soon either.
When reminded that Ari is single again after calling of her engagement to Saturday Night Live regular Pete, Nathan quickly shut down the conversation with a simple No.
Like I say, its a long time ago, he added.
We get the message Nath, you man of many words, you.
On the song, Ariana, who reportedly checked with all those mentioned before releasing the track, sings: Thought Id end up with Sean/But he wasnt a match/Wrote some songs about Ricky/Now I listen and laugh.
Referencing her five-month relationship with funnyman Pete, she adds: Even almost got married/And for Pete, Im so thankful, before paying tribute to late rapper Mac, who died after an accidental overdose in September, with: Wish I could say, “Thank you” to Malcolm/Cause he was an angel.
Ariana treated fans to a special performance of the new single on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday and looked heavenly dressed in all-white while rocking her trademark thigh-boots and long pony.
We are #SoBlessed.
