A cheeky diner was caught on camera shoving live crabs down his trousers in a desperate bid to steal them from a seafood restaurant.
Police identified the brazen suspect only by his surname, Yao, and said he sneaked into the restaurant before it had even opened for lunch last week.
But CCTV footage captures the 58-year-old father-to-two reach into the water and nab five crabs.
He places them into a black plastic bag and then shoves the lot down his trousers.
Police in Fujian, east China, arrested home hours later at his home. Yao told officers he thought the crabs looked pretty and wanted to keep them as pets.
But the furious restaurant owner had bought the crustaceans that day and planned to cook them later in the afternoon.
Incredibly, Yao confessed he had stolen six crabs and a set of cutlery from the same restaurant in January and, as he was not caught, he believed he would get away with the latest offence.
The dad was arrested for other thefts in 2016 and 2017.
It is unclear at this stage what punishment Yao, of Fujian, will receive.
