She left the Today show abruptly in October after a dispute over equal pay.

But despite the shocking exit, Lisa Wilkinson said the public's reaction has mostly been congratulatory and she's thankful it has started a new conversation about women in the workforce.

Speaking to Adelaide Now the 58-year-old said 'it's a response I never could have predicted' as she ended her decade-long stint with the Nine network.

'I am so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to send messages, stop me in the street and generally make their feelings on the issue widely known,' she said.

And while the hope her actions will alter new generations is palpable, Lisa said the most 'meaningful response' has come from fathers of young boys and girls who find the pay gap deplorable – and want it altered in time for their own children to flourish.

'Unconscious – and conscious – bias when it comes to lesser pay, conditions and career advancement for women is still happening in so many industries, so if I have helped in any way to keep that conversation going, then I’m pleased,' she insisted.

Lisa resigned from her post as a Today show host two months ago and only a few hours later announced she would be taking up a position at The Project on Sunday nights.

The on screen sensation will also become editor-in-chief of the network’s new online platform, Ten Daily, in January.

So despite the fact her alarm doesn't go off at 3am anymore, Lisa still has a very busy 2018 ahead of her.

But she has taken some well-earned time off over the holiday season, celebrating her birthday at Jonah's restaurant in Palm Beach and Christmas surrounded by her three children.

Christmas Eve was a particularly cherished night, as it was the first time in ten years she wasn't hosting Carols by Candlelight alongside Karl Stefanovic.

'At home with the family on Christmas Eve for the first time in ten years. And it feels so good… Hope that whatever you're doing, whoever you're with, you're all having a beautiful evening,' she wrote on Instagram.
