Piers Morgan may be one of British TV’s most controversial faces but let’s face it, sometimes he says exactly what we need to hear.
From praising the classic roast dinner to his work as he helped to cover the 2017 London terror attacks and calling former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson a ‘bigoted lunatic’, whether you like it or not sometimes Piers does deserve a round of applause….
Like the time he called a so-called dating guru a ‘dick’:
Saying what many viewers at home were thinking, Piers called out a dating guru live on Good Morning Britain after he said most British women are unattractive and moan all the time.
‘You’re a dick aren’t you?’ said Piers, as gasps rang out on set.
‘I mean you are, your name is Richard. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything by that.’
Richard, trying to save face, added: ‘We could call you Piers Moron,’ to which Piers added: ‘You are literally a Dick.’
And when he confronted a doctor who believed in ‘gay conversion’:
In an explosive row on homosexuality, Piers confronted Dr. Davidson, who runs a therapy course for those he claims wish to convert to being heterosexual.
Challenging his views and branding him a ‘bigot,’ Piers demanded to know: ‘Where is your evidence you were born straight?’
Stumbling over his words, the 57-year-old was asked again to ‘prove you’re straight,’ to which he replied: ‘Why do we have to stick to a binary label system? I have two children, I have been with my wife for 35 years. I have left homosexual practices.’
When he admitted HE WAS WRONG!:
Piers ate some humble pie in June when he finally admitted he was wrong to criticise Ariana Grande for her decision to leave the UK immediately after the devastating Manchester terror attack.
‘I misjudged you, @ArianaGrande & I apologise,’ he tweeted mid-way through her One Love Manchester show, which was in aid of raising funds for those affected by the bombing and which took place weeks later.
‘You’re an admirable young woman & this is a magnificent night. Respect. #OneLoveManchester.’
And when he showed he does have a heart:
Piers may have made Charlotte Hawkins cry live on Good Morning Britain but he more than made up for it when he sent her a large bouquet of flowers.
‘Now that’s what I call a bouquet of flowers @piersmorgan… big thanks for cheering me up – it’s as big as me!!’ Charlotte tweeted hours after the show had aired.
Charlotte, who was voted off of Strictly Come Dancing after four weeks, had been reduced to tears on the show when Piers launched into a furious rant at Strictly judge Shirley Ballas, who got Charlotte’s name wrong during Saturday night’s show.
Remember when he called Tommy Robinson exactly what we all wanted to call him?
As the UK woke up in July to a horrific terror attack which targeted Muslim worshippers leaving late prayers in Finsbury Park, the ex-EDL leader Tommy Robinson aused outrage for appearing to justify the senseless violence by accusing the London mosque of ‘creating terrorists’.
And Piers was having none of it for as Robinson continued in his attempts to criticise mosques, becoming increasingly more furious, Pier simply told him to ‘show some damn respect for people’s religious beliefs.’
And then he added: ‘You’re sounding like a bigoted lunatic.’
When he used a Kinder Egg to show how batshit insane America’s gun laws are:
‘These are banned in America because they’re a ‘health hazard’. Semi-automatic rifles are legal. #vegas,’ Piers tweeted in October after he spoke to a pro-gun campaigner to try to find out why it is that it is perfectly legal to buy a semi-automatic assault rifle in the U.S. yet the chocolate is outlawed.
The move came after Stephen Paddock killed 59 people and injured more than 500 in Las Vegas, using a semi-automatic AR-15 gun. Pro-gun campaigner Dan Roberts actually laughed part-way through the argument, adding that he hoped the murders would not bring about changes to the gun laws and revealed that ‘the AR-15 is the least powerful centre file rifle on the market in the U.S. Period’.
Morgan replied: ‘Well then there’s even bigger problems isn’t there. If the semi-automatic AR-15 this guy used to shoot 600 people in a few minutes is the least high powered, then the problem’s even bigger than we think.’
At one point, Morgan admitted he ‘couldn’t debate it civilly because it enrages me too much’.
Piers also rallied the nation after the Westminster attacks in March:
‘There’ll be lots of attention given to this horrible little coward who got into his car and mowed down kids and people,’ he said.
‘But while he did that we should focus on the heroes – that policeman who gave his life, that MP who tried to save his life, and that’s what this country’s about. And we should focus on them as much… They’ll never win. They’ll never do that.
‘I’ve read a few people saying today it’s the end, we’ve given up, we’ve surrendered to this kind of thing, it’s the new normal.
‘No it’s not. We haven’t. We’ll be fine. This is just one lunatic in a car who wanted to change our lives. He will not succeed.’
When he said a roast dinner is the best of all the foods:
When Good Morning Britain guest Josie, who has been married to her husband Harry for 67 years, said that the secret to a long marriage is a roast every Sunday, Piers couldn’t help but agree.
‘Don’t get me wrong, I like some foreign food, but you can’t beat a good English roast right?’
And when he walked out on stage at the NTAs with a gag around his mouth:
Susanna Reid finally did ‘what people have been asking me to do for some time’ and put a gag around Piers’ mouth at the 2017 National Television Awards.
Walking out on stage, she spoke of the tough week felt by everyone, following the inauguration of Donald Trump and the worldwide Women’s March.
‘It’s been a controversial week… so, I’ve done what people have been asking me to do for some time and I have finally gagged Piers Morgan.’
