Tonight’s Gogglebox Christmas special will feature a special tribute to the late Leon Bernicoff.
Gogglebox fans were left heartbroken yesterday after the news that Leon, 83, had passed away in hospital following a short illness.
The former teacher and his devoted wife June appeared on the Channel 4 show since its first series in 2013.
A Christmas special which sees all the Gogglebox families commenting on the TV shows that entertained, tickled and grossed us out in 2017 will be going ahead as planned, tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
But Channel 4 bosses confirmed that the channel would be ‘making a comment’ on Leon’s death on air before the episode begins.
The episode will see families including Leon and June, the Tappers, the Siddiquis and Giles and Mary reacting to shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Doctor Foster, Naked Attraction and The Crystal Maze.
Leon’s wife June took to Twitter late last night to thank fans for their support.
The 78-year-old tweeted: ‘Thankyou Folks for all your wonderful messages. ‘Leon would have loved reading them & hearing how much he was loved. Goodnight & God Bless!’
The stars of Gogglebox also paid tribute to Leon, with Scarlett Moffatt tweeting: ‘Words can’t explain what you meant to so many people. From your words of encouragement to me to the little DMs. Leon you were loved by so many.’
Leon and June got married in 1960, after meeting when June was 18 in 1995 at a dance at a teacher training college.
Leon, a lifelong Everton FC supporter, is survived by June, their two daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.
Gogglebox airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
